To his surprise the little car would not work anymore, he brings it inside and pulls an old screwdriver from out of his lunchbox. Slowly and methodically, he takes it apart, pulling the circuit board out and inspecting it. He places it in his lunchbox full of other circuits and wire, and then slides it back under his bed. At some point in time in their development, most people encounter an adult figure, who instills a positive change in their lives. For me, that person was Cindy Scannella--my track and my cross country coach for my first two years of high school. With her unique approach to coaching, Coach Scannella not only gave me the confidence to flourish in the sport and lead my team, but she also gifted me with a love for running. This passion of mine as well as her continual support has carried me through the difficulties of my grandfather’s death, my parents’ divorce, and other strenuous circumstances including the end of her time as my coach. Her presence in my life has truly altered my life for the better.…

I want to explore ways to make a better social environment and make people of color and others be confident and secure of who they are. I want to reach out and hear the stories that are conducted throughout the communities we live in and get a better understanding on how to improve it. I believe it is important for me, being a person of color, and others to make an attempt to not just have equality but have equity. Especially in the time we live in now.…

Describe your educational and career goals and explain what or who has inspired or helped shape these goals. During my high school years, I recall working in the fields during vacation breaks with my mother harvesting tomatoes, picking up cherries, and pruning grape vines. Fascinating as it sounds, I was always intrigued to understand why fruits and vegetables spoil or often cause food poising in humans. Although, when I questioned my mother why these fruits spoil, she responded it was due to "little bugs," which was not a sufficient response.…

The Scientific Method, in my opinion, is a lengthy process to test the validity of hypotheses or theories in order to determine whether those educated guesses hold accurate value to either solve a world problem or answer a scientific question. Much of my paper, if not all, is cited from the ICC’s Films on Demand video called The Scientific Method that can be found under our class’s “Course Materials” tab. The Scientific Method has a total of five parts or sections: define the problem, form a hypothesis, experiments and observations, analyze data, and, lastly, form a conclusion and communicate the results (Scientific Method, 1999). In my opinion, there are a few reasons why I think the Scientific Method has importance; I believe it has continued…
