R.R. is a 70-year-old white male who resides in Arvada, Colorado with his wife of 42 years. He recently moved to Colorado, from Pennsylvania, after he retired from his blue-collar job as a mechanic in a local auto shop where he worked nearly 46 years. He exudes great pride when speaking of his two grown children and five grandchildren here in Colorado, who helped make his decision to move an obvious choice. He recently underwent quadruple cardiac bypass surgery after suffering several small heart attacks and felt that he has been given a second chance to live his life to the fullest potential. In making a thorough and careful decision to think about the past, elders can reshape their ideas and beliefs, leaving a legacy or tradition for another family member. Life review is an important part of bringing one's life to a close. As life ends, we want to know that our life has had value and meaning, and a real sense of purpose. Based on Erickson’s ego integrity scale reached by the elder, I would rate my participate with a score of 10. Mr. R. has come to terms with life, and being a religious man, admits that he is not fearful of death. Looking back at his life thus far, He voiced few regrets and the mistakes that he made, he agreed too and said he grew from the experience. Mr. R. expressed a sense of fulfillment in life, and is looking forward to spending his remaining years with his family, and accepts death as an unavoidable reality. Admitting that he endured many trial and tribulations during his early childhood, he states that the experiences made him stronger and gave him a real sense of gratitude for his life today.
