Olive wanted her son Christopher to be rid of his depression, have a successful marriage, and in the end she also wanted her son Christopher to give her grandchildren. As we come to find out, Olive expressed deep agitation when her son failed to meet expectations she had set out for him. Her expectations were that her son Christopher was going to remain in Maine at the house she and her husband Henry had built for him. In addition to that, she had always presumed that he would marry a woman from their small town. None of this happened according to Olives plan, Christopher married a woman that he thought would be all right for him.
