NASA researchers have confirmed the existence of potentially life supporting water that flows across the antient surface of Mars, even today! According to John Grunsfeld, the associate administrator for the Science Mission Directorate at NASA, "the existence of liquid water, even if it is super salty briny water, gives the possibility that if there's life on Mars, that we have a way to describe how it might survive." Using images taken by the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, NASA researchers confirmed that the water streaks found absorb light at specific wavelengths that directly connects them with chemical that water on Mars would need. These chemicals allow the water to stay in a liquid form at low temperatures but it also makes sure that the water doesn't boil on the hot surface of mars. With the water confirmed to be existent, researchers hope to find life, specifically microbes, in the crust of Mars. However, how habitable Mars may actually be depends on how cold the weather is as well as how salty the water really is. And, …show more content…
Having water Mars has an important impact on Earth because if life has originated twice within our solar system, our existence couldn’t have been random and it could also imply that the wider cosmos must also buzz with life. Also, if scientists can prove life on Mars, it definitely sparks interest in the thought or envisionment that one day we, as humans, could inhabit the Red Planet as well. But, colonizing Mars is still a bit far fetched. To establish life on a foreign planet that planet one must have more than just drinkable, safe water; they must have a habitable

Many have asked the question why doesn't Mars have oceans? A recent breakthrough discovery has confirmed that liquid water does exist on Mars. This means there is the potential for life to exist here. However, this water is very minimal compared to previous levels of water found on Mars. A study done by Geronimo Villanueva and Michael Mumma of NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center reveals that Mars used to have at minimum…

Thanks to its carved topography, researchers have always suspected that Mars was once home to several rivers, lakes, and perhaps even oceans. There has even been some speculation about the existence of frozen water deep beneath the ground. However, finding evidence of liquid water in the present day, has been a little elusive. That is why NASA's September 28th announcement that confirmed the detection of liquid brine on the Red Planet caused so much excitement. The first indication of the liquid's presence came in 2011 from high-resolution images captured by the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO), which has been orbiting the Red Planet since 2006.…

Finding a source of water on Mars will be an implication of prolonged human exploration of the planet. The obvious answer would be to send it there beforehand, but that is not feasible. Water is very heavy and a manned exploration zone would need a lot of it, which develops a problem. There are many proposed solutions, including the decomposition of the hydrazine, or spent rocket fuel. This is efficient because of the practicality of the dual usage of the fuel and using the excess hydrogen gas which would already be on Mars, but the combustion reaction requires extremely high temperatures.…
