This way of handling things is not only forcing people into reliance on the drug, but is also setting poor examples for the youth. Soma is an example of what can happen to society if it allows the youth to become dependent on a drug rather than face the struggles of the real world. To hide from lows or lessen the pain of something is not how people should handle a situation. Today though in life people do try to hide from the pains of life in many ways and it’s almost the same as the character’s in the novel taking Soma. This leads back to how drugs cannot only affect the future but can affect the life of civilization.
In conclusion, society today is based on a happiness of the peoples choice. The government doesn’t choose or make the happiness of the people today. Most of society does rely on drugs to escape reality or to help them through life rather than facing issues. This changes peoples perspective on life and dying. The life for the characters in the Brave New World is sometimes similar to the lives we live today and the writer Aldous Huxley did come close to guessing how the future would be.
