Pi’s Beliefs Pi from the Life of Pi by Yann Martel learns about Christianity and that religion helped him survive in the long run, and when he thought all was lost, he kept praying, knew that God was with him throughout it all, and knew that he wasn’t the only one suffering. Pi throughout his entire journey never lost faith in the Lord, and still knew someone was out there with him, even if it’s not a physical human being. One of Pi’s survival instincts was to keep his mind busy and not think about death. Pi had to make himself plans to stop him from thinking, one of which is that made himself a schedule for every day. And upon that schedule, he had himself praying. "Wake up, prayers... Mid morning to late afternoon, prayers... Late afternoon to early evening, prayers… Sunset… prayers. Sure, he did have Richard Parker, but he was only a tiger. He couldn’t talk and make a plan with him. Pi only had himself to talk to. But Pi also prayed to God a lot. And praying is just a form of talking, so he did have God. Sure, he wasn’t actually there, but Pi could still talk to him. "Since you are encountering the same struggle you saw I had, and now hear that I still have" (Philippians 1.30). This quote is saying that no one is fighting or struggling alone, all because God was there with them no matter what, even in the darkest of times. Pi knew that God was always with him which is why he prayed multiple times everyday. Pi had to do a lot to survive. And most of his tactics were related to his religion in some way.
