Throughout his life, we see him grow as his life and mind molds around the religions he finds interesting to him. Pi is raised as a Hindu, but finds Christianity while in the mountain side and Islam in the Muslim quarters of Pondicherry. He is ridiculed for blindly accepting so many faiths, but he simply wants to devote his love to God in every way possible. When stranded in the ocean, Pi nearly loses hope on surviving after losing his family and becoming emotionally unstable. He believed he was alone when he wasn’t, he knew he had to make changes to his ways. Pi became more self-sufficient and knew that being a vegetarian in the ocean would hinder him, so he learned to fish.
