If a person in this century started to speak the things that Jesus spoke, he probably would be committed to a mental facility. One of the things that Jesus did, and did very well, was get people to open their minds. Being a good teacher is not just about teaching to inform, but having enough influence as a teacher to be able to change the way a person thinks. Jesus’ followers went their entire lives knowing close to nothing about God or the kingdom of Heaven, but upon meeting Jesus and listening to his teachings, their perception of life completely changed. Jesus had a long lasting effect on everyone he came into contact with as a teacher, which should be the goal of any teacher. His teachings became a way of life for an entire religion. Jesus also had a very personal connection to what he was teaching, as God tasked him with the job of enlightening the world. He wanted people to be generous and selfless. He taught the commandments, and hoped that people would apply them to their lives as much as possible. He taught people to be kind even to those who were not kind in return. Jesus reminded others that by living as a hypocrite, they would not inherit the kingdom of God. They must make sure that they have their lives in order before being teachers of the good word as well; if their lives are not in order, how can they expect people to believe what they teach?
