I believe that facing uncomfortable situations does allow people to grow as an individual and I do agree that trigger warnings are unnecessary. Although, I do believe that Jerry Coyne’s tone was too aggressive. He used strong language throughout such as, ludicrous and “latest bit of nonsense” to portray his hostile tone. I believe he could’ve made a better attempt at not being so brash about his beliefs, but he did convey his message very clearly. Another reason I agree with Coyne is the culture or atmosphere that trigger warnings create. Trigger warnings almost serve as a way out for students when concerning touchy topics. Although people dispute that it allows the students to prepare for the conversation about the controversial topic, in life you don’t get warnings to unwanted situations. Life happens fast, and the unknown springs upon you in a flash. That’s why I think it is important for people to be willing to be uncomfortable with little hesitation because it will better them long-term. It should be seen as an opportunity and not as an unwelcomed
