Life is Hard

Is your life hard? There’s no way it can be as hard as Andrew and his dad’s problems. In the story, “Fly Away Home” by Eve Bunting, life is hard. Andrew and his dad go through many problems as they live through the rough life of the airport. At the beginning of the story, life is hard because Andrew and his dad have to live in an airport. It specifically says, “My dad and I live in an airport”. Living in an airport can make your life stressing and hard. Also, they have to try not to be noticed. Not being noticed can be hard to do and it will make your life a lot harder and complicated. In the story it says, “Not to be noticed is to look like no one at all”. You would be alert the whole time and you would never be able to relax. This shows that life is hard.

In the middle of the story, life is hard because they have to put up with all of the loud noises when they go to sleep. This will cause them to be tired and cranky when they wake up. I learn from experience. Then, they wake up at 2 to 4 o’clock in the morning! Imagine that! I would never be able to wake up that early in the morning. Don’t you think that would make their life hard? Last, they have to sleep sitting up. This makes them uncomfortable and might give them aches when they wake up. This makes their life hard too. Then they might be too tired to work.

If I was in a situation like Andrew was I would stay strong and try to encourage my dad to keep trying and trying to get a house. In the story it says, “Sometimes I just want to cry. I think dad and I will be here forever”. Andrew doesn’t think positive and this can make his life hard. Also, thinking that you are trapped in an unknown place can make you scared and can also make your life

This past week our class had a discussion over Fun Home, a graphic novel, written by Allison Bechdel. A topic that my class briefly talked about throughout this discussion was the title of the novel and its physical meaning. The title of this novel is Fun Home. In reality, this title was sarcastic and had a deeper meaning toward it. When I think of a fun home I think of the fairs or haunted houses people visit with the distorted mirrors and scary characters inside, such as clowns.…
