Life is a series of constant challenges that one must overcome to persevere. Throughout my life I have faced various challenges but, until my sophomore year in high school I don’t believe I truly understood what a true challenge was. One day my life took a dramatic turn. At the time I failed to see how much my life would truly be affected in all the days to come. I was a relatively healthy teenager when everything began to change. In the beginning of 2013 I began tenth grade, just as any average high school student would. Yet by the end of that very year, I realized I no longer fit into the quo of a “typical high school teenager”. It began as a simple pounding, a painful pulse throughout my head. It felt as if someone had taken a knife and was stabbing my head repeatedly. Moment after moment the pain worsened; it was like nothing I had ever experienced before. It wasn’t long before I realized I had just experienced my very first migraine. Soon after, I was diagnosed with the condition chronic migraine with aura. To many, a migraine is a temporary condition that may feel painful but will go away. That is how a typical migraine should be, but of course I’m not the typical person. From the time I’ve had my first migraine to the present day, I’ve had approximately 400 migraines, if not more. Just writing that number seems unreal, and yet it has become my story.
