People traveling from England to the New World were about to embark on a month-long journey to a place that they had only heard things about but hadn’t actually been to. During this long journey, they willingly faced the likelihood of death, disease, and the unknown. These settlers were hoping to find new opportunities in the North America for themselves and for their country. Virginia was established in 1607 by Englishmen who were looking to make a profit from gold and silver. The Englishmen settled in Virginia for profit in the first place so it was pretty much a free for all and nobody would really help each other out if one was in need of help. Virginia was seen as exclusive because of how they were. Virginia’s sports reflect their competitive values and their stratified society. Some of the games played in Virginia were horse racing, gander pulling, and gambling/ betting games. The games played in Virginia did not really involve teams because people played for themselves not others. The sports played in Virginia were also very exclusive because there were games that can only be played by the status of that person or how rich that person was. The sports in Virginia had many “different levels” and that's why “competition was restricted to better sort of Virginians only.” Another thing about Virginian's cultures and values were that of how marriage worked in Virginia.
