Prohibition
Life in Chicago during the 1920’s was not a very good time period due to prohibition, the gangsters that were against prohibition like Al Capone, and how even though prohibition was going on they were still making it, transporting it, and selling the alcohol.

Life was especially difficult in Chicago because of Al Capone and his gang/mob. Al Capone’s gang was one of the most dangerous ones in the US, and if any rival gang came across them in a bad way there would be consequences like the St. Valentine's Massacre. This shows that all alcohol would go through Al Capone and his gang and pretty much nobody could stop him. Al Capone was born on January 17, 1899 in Brooklyn, New York to poor Italian immigrant parents Gabriele and Teresina Capone. They came to America just like most of the immigrants of that decade for a better life. In 1920 Capone’s father died of a heart attack his friend Johnny Torrio offered him a job in his gang because they had been long time friends and Capone jumped on it. After an attempt on Johnny Torrio’s life he moved back to Italy to be safe and after he moved that’s when Al took over the business. By early 1929 Capone dominated the liquor trade in Chicago. All of these facts show that Al Capone was a very dominant gangster and mafia leader. This is really the reason that Chicago was a bad place to live in due to Al and the
