The Day To Day Job Experience As A Police Officer

Decent Essays
When I was in middle school at Pomolita Middle School, there was a career day and I talked to a police officer. I remember his belt containing a gun, a taser, handcuffs, baton, and pepper spray. I remember his uniform, completely black and professional. I knew looking at the CHP Officer that he knew what he was doing. He explained what his job was about and how he liked it. He also told me he gets a lot of good benefits that come with the job as well with his pay.
His job interested me a little and I decided to look into it for my senior project to get more information on it. I will put my research of CHP jobs into practice, by going on police ride alongs and learning the day to day life experience as a police officer. At the end of my senior project, I expect to learn the requirements needed such as education required and testing as well what it takes to become a police officer. In order for me to know how the day to day job experience is as a police officer, I will do a police ride along to get some experience as a police officer.

If I didn 't choose this for my senior project i 'm sure later on in life I wouldn 't be as motivated to look more into this job as much as I learned from doing it for my senior project. I 've learned about everything and even experienced spending some time with a police officer to follow him around while he 's on duty. That is something I would probably not be as motivated to do if I did it after I graduate and i 'm glad i was able to do it before i got out of school. Knowing how fun it was I will be putting another application for another ride along sometime

The accepted definition of police subculture is described as a particular set of beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors displayed by those who work in the field of law enforcement. Such values are typically shaped by the experiences that police officers underwent along with many other factors, such as the partners that they worked with, their leaders, and the criminals that they faced. Although, since most of the time that law enforcement officers spend is involved in trying to control crime, it has made the police become wary of the public and has caused them to develop an “us versus them” mindset (Herbert). There is also the “blue curtain” or the “blue wall of silence,” which is something of a code of silence among the police and it only serves…

In class a lot is learned about the different rankings, necessary education, and the court systems but talking to an officer gives you personal insight on what he has to go through in everyday life. You can hear how actually dangerous their jobs can be rather than just reading it. You can hear how much they want to keep their community safe rather than just hating them for giving you a speeding ticket. They tell you things they enjoy and dislike doing in their line of work and see how much action they actually have to deal with rather than just relying on stereotypes from movies. I have a new found respect for officers, for the ones who actually care and enjoy their line of work to better the community that they work…

For my short paper interview with a police officer, I decided that I wanted to focus on the field training program of a major city with a large, diverse community, so I reached out to the Boston Police Department (BPD). My reason for this was due to the civil strife we saw in Baltimore several weeks ago. Both Baltimore and Boston are similar in population and the size of their departments. In Baltimore, it appears that poor field training may have led to systematic failures and was responsible for the incident involving Freddie Gray. For this research, I was able to get in touch with Kelley O'Connell of the Boston Police Department.…

In policing just as in any other organization there are people who do it for the right reasons, and those who don’t. It is my personal opinion that ninety-nine percent of people that become police officers do it for the right reasons, and truly want to help the community. Although the majority of police officers are good willed, and want to help the community there are still what is known by many as the “bad apples”. A police officer can become a “bad apple” in many ways, either by temptations to steal money from a drug dealer that he or she just busted or by what is known as Nobel cause corruption.…
