Life Course is one of the major theories in investigating the lives of individuals within the cultural and social framework. It is a pattern of socially defined, age-graded events and roles, which are subject to historical change in culture and social structure (Elder 1999). Over the past several decades, life course has changed immensely throughout the world- where once there were large family size and everyone depended on the income of one family member, now the family size has shrunken and there is less standardization than before. Nevertheless, life course of every human being is exclusive; it is shaped by the society they live in and the economic, social and historical events that occur during their lives. In order to understand how the life course affects an individual, I will be focusing on the life of the respondent, Daniyal, using the life course theories of contemporary and classical sociologists to grasp how his life coincides and strays from, such principles. Daniyal was born in 1935, during the beginning of World War II, and is 81 years old today. He remains married, with four children, twelve grandchildren and three great grand children, to his wife of 56 years and continues to play an active role in his business and social work.
