During summer, teenagers and younger children seem to have a great time catching up with family, friends, or anyone who they have not communicated with as frequently due to the pressure and stress of the school year. With summer comes many life changing moments for teenagers as they approach another year in high school. While some of these life changing moments assist teenagers in becoming a more mature version of themselves, some life changing moments leave teenagers hanging, hopelessly waiting for a happy ending. Queenie wanted a happy ending to her life changing moment which occurred the summer before her senior year of high school, her major break-up. Queenie appeared as the girl who had it all: the perfectly matched outfit, the endless …show more content…
After all, she had to maintain her social status somehow. Throughout her love life, Queenie grew to dislike the typical boy with the perfectly ironed shirt and polyester pants. At lunch, Queenie’s friends whispered in her ear their concerns regarding Alex. They targeted his shoes, the rips on the shoulder of his jacket, the look on his face during the awkward lunch period, but Queenie did not care what her friends said. The remainder of her lunch period, she successfully began bonding with Alex. While Queenie came from a more high class family, she easily related to Alex’s life story. He told her about constantly moving to different states due to his father. Alex only lived with his father, his parents separated years ago. When his mother left, he felt as a he lost a huge piece of his life. Queenie identified with how he felt, the feeling she had when she slowly walked into an empty house, with her house maid as an exception. Queenie knew that lost, empty feeling all too well. Therefore, they immediately hit it off, feeling as though they may have both found that missing piece they searched for all along. Alex wanted to see Queenie again, their first date fell on a Friday night, in which they simply drove through town in his Ford Pinto, talking to each other about anything and
