I have spent my entire High School career searching for a way to create happiness for anyone I could. What I have found through multiple years of hard work in determination is one does not have the ability to make everyone happy, but has the role to make sure many people are safe and are able to find their own happiness. In school I participate in every community service organization possible in order to give back to the town that has helped raise me.
My role as Key Club president, Relay for Life Captain and position in student council has pushed me to work toward becoming a better leader, stronger individual and patient friend. It has given me the skills I need to enter the career that makes my heart sing every time I mention it, an early childhood educator. Throughout my years of servitude

I have seen parents cry, children fall, families’ laughs, people scream, from all different ethnicities and races. The one thing they all seem to have in common is the fight to reach contentment. One day I dream of opening a day care that expresses diversity and allows all children to feel accepted. I want to take the joy that I have received from the people around me and give it to those who not only need it but those who truly deserve it. An active lifestyle in Southampton is not an easy task. I spend the majority of my week going to meetings, speaking to all different people, trying to make our school, our community and our world a better and more joyous place to live. The kindness of our neighborhood as pushed me to take on the desire of one day working with students. From Maureen’s Haven teaching me what it means to really appreciate what you have and to give what you can, to September Fest showing that everyone can be accepted no matter what they look like or how they dress all the way down to one of the most influential events I have ever been to, the Fresh Air home. It was in this building that I learned what it meant to enjoy what you have to offer and not

It’s made me think harder and work harder, it’s pushed me out of my comfort zone, and ultimately has made me a different, but better person. I’ve become someone that sets a goal, and persistently strives to reach that goal, even when it’s hard and there seems to be no gain from trying. I’ve become someone who can work with a group of people that are different than each other, because we are not all that different. I can talk about business with confidence, I can speak in front of a group of people, and I can tell the difference between a Brahman and an Angus. I’ve truly learned and experienced more than I ever thought possible, all because I joined FFA five long years…

Although my high school years are mostly defined through academic success, I would have to say my most meaningful achievements came through the North Carolina FFA. This national organization provides me with countless opportunities to showcase my leadership abilities in my school, community, and state. Obtaining the positions of Vice President and President of my high school FFA chapter has had an enormous impact on my life. These positions led to serving on nominating committees, planning community events, attending leadership conventions and conferences, and participating in a state-qualifying parliamentary procedure team. It was these experiences that gave me a passion for public speaking and Agribusiness.…

There was never a dull moment due to the wide range of diversity, talent, and personalities of students. I made amazing lifelong friends that appreciated my presence, ideas, and personality. The entire student body participated in deep discussions over a wide range of topics including beliefs, injustice, and conflicts in our society. Everyone treated other’s contributions with respect and consideration of their ideas and views. Each discussion and activity opened my eyes to recognize meaningful things that society normally overlooked.…

People choose to be happy by deciding to succeed and follow their dreams despite a large (or slight) affliction in their life. With a job to make people happy, deciding to look for the positive aspects in life can be a great idea. Walt Disney had his fair share of problems before becoming the world-renowned cartoon creator. There was a time when Disney was homeless because his cartoon factory (Laugh-o-Grams) wasn’t making enough for him to pay the rent of his apartment. During this rough time, his employees started to resign, and Disney’s only true friend was a rat.…

My parents have always said that it was an exasperating decision trying to name me. They flipped through a multitude of name books and could never agree on anything. The moment did not come until I was born, at first glance, my mom knew I was an Urszula and my dad could not deny it. Urszula. The name alone stands for “little bear;” a strong-willed and motivated animal.…

It’s safe to assume that most people strive to be happy in their life. Individual happiness can be defined in a number of ways, for many people wealth is the answer to becoming happy while others may view health as an important component to happiness. Seneca, a wealthy and notable philosopher during the Roman Imperial period, does not consider wealth nor health as essential to our own happiness. Instead, he regards virtue alone as being sufficient for happiness (Vogt 2016). Aristotle, on the other hand, does not regard happiness as a human feeling but he views it more as an objective state or an achievement (Aristotle on Eudaimonia).…

Being that this is my third year as a student at Benedictine University, I continue to grow as an individual and learn more about myself. This school year, I had the opportunity to be a part of the executive board for the Pre-Physical Therapy/Occupational Therapy Club as a director of recruitment. Next year, I hope to be co-president with one of my colleagues. Throughout the year, I was in charge of updating the club’s website with information about the club and any new events that were being offered by the university. Along with that, I was able to plan and coordinate different meetings that the club hosted.…

“You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view” -Harper Lee, To Kill a Mockingbird. As Jean Louis was able to learn from Atticus, there is a value to connecting with the people of your community. I have reflected upon these lessons from literature, as well as the lessons in my own life to discern the importance of community connection and volunteer work. There are two main extracurricular activities that have shaped me into who I am today. Without understanding the significance of what I was embarking upon, I started volunteering in the nursery at my church.…

I’m aware that happiness is a feeling and like any other feeling it’s only momentarily. However, when I decided who I wanted to be when I grew up, I definitely knew I wanted to help others find happiness. This may sound cliche, but I believe that when one is happy everything else falls into place. Psychology has fascinated me ever since I was a teenager. The benefit of speaking to someone that is unbiased and is there to listen with the sole purpose of helping someone essentially find happiness and peace within, is precisely what I hope to do for the rest of my life.…
