Life Call Ad Essay

While watching the ads “Life Call” which was made in 1980 and Innovage which was made in 2015. Both ads are using marketing strategies for the elderly population, but it is interesting to view the ads from different time frames. In the 1980’s ad, they use elderly people and portray them or have them reenact falling while having no one there. Stating that the life call can help prevent any further injuries. In the beginning of the ad, they mention how there was over 3 million accidents that caused elderly people to get disabled. At the time, this technique may have been effective having elderly people falling or being on the floor pressing the device because this may have the elderly people feel more comfortable staying at home with the device. What is challenging is the ad makes the elderly people look clumsy by always falling, not all elderly people are clumsy and some may just like the Life Call for safety or precaution. This ad also portrays an ominous feel by being very dark and a feeling like you will die. Even though the Life call ad was from 1980, it is important to not scare the elderly population. As the baby boomers get older, they have a different attitude and it is important that we make sure to not offend them and to be knowledgeable about their values. Life Call has an elderly women falling down the stairs and that is something that many elderly people fear, let alone dieing. Seeing the doctor shaking their head when the elderly person was dead was not enticing and could make the elderly people more freaked out. Just based on the YouTube comments many people felt terrible for laughing, especially with how serious the ad is.
