Before the Industrial Revolution, people used to live in small cottages or large castles. They knew each other and lived close together. This provided safety as when someone goes missing there would have been at least a few people to notice it. Almost all people lived and worked in the country. From 1300 to 1750, for the average peasant, people’s work and social life mixed, as families lived on small plots of land, growing crops mostly for home consumption. Children learned to milk cows, churn butter, and tend to farm animals.
