Comment to Eryn Speer from Rachel Garrison I enjoyed your paper overall, the different perspective of the storyteller made the story mysterious and exciting for the viewer. Up until the end I believed that the James we were speaking of was a creature and yet it was a human. Giving the audience a small glimse of what is in store for them during the story in the beginging and changing their expectations complately gives the storyteller the upperhand. Letting every detail of the story draw the viewer into what they believe is going to happen, then switching it around, keeping the reader insterested and questioning.…
Do you think we can sacrifice few persons to make others happier? I don’t think so. Many people might say yes to this question because no one thinks that you or your family will be the few persons to be sacrificed and logically, help thousands of people by sacrificing few people might sound nice for human beings. However, scientists may make poor decisions because of their passion for discovery and we cannot forget about the respect for fundamental human rights. In the book The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks written by Rebecca Skloot, she writes about experiments back in the mid-twentieth century when she says, “They recruited hundreds of African-American men with syphilis, then watched them die slow, painful, and preventable deaths, even…
Many authors choose to write what they know about. In the book To Kill a Mockingbird, author, Nelle Harper Lee use her childhood life as a model for the book. To Kill a Mockingbird takes place in 1930s Maycomb Alabama. The narrator, Scout Finch, is a young tomboy who tells the story of a trial her father, Atticus, and how he chose to defend a black man, regardless of his. The characters and setting of the novel impact the plot in many ways.…
This essay discusses the correlation of themes and topics from Dr. Dwayne Mack’s book Black Spokane and connects it to key aspects and themes from Let Nobody Turn Us Around, and from African Americans: A Concise History. All three texts encompasses important aspects of African American oppression, the fight for civil and equal rights. During the time of slavery, many blacks were treated horribly and were not treated equally to whites. Many white Americans’ embraced American ethnologist study which stated that white Americans were a superior race and that African Americans are a lesser race (Hine, p. 190).…

Being an older child in a family does not always have its benefits. Sometimes it puts you at a disadvantage when having younger brothers/sisters. Your parents might let them get away with more than they ever let you get away with, or they might even take up for them more than they would you. Having your parents and relatives take up for them in times that you know they should be either upset or disappointed in them might make you try to point it out to them. It would create an internal battle with your emotions for your brother/sister and your parents and relatives.…

The Time Magazine article “What Is a Life Worth?” discusses how the government invented a formula to determine the monetary value of a person’s life. The author, Amanda Ripley, poses the question: “Is a poor man’s life worth less than a rich man’s?” Using reasoning and true stories, she concludes that everyone’s life is worth the same regardless of a person’s wealth. I contend the opposite. The government’s method of compensating families after 9/11 was the right decision.…

After Wolf explains these views, Adams and Kothe set up counter arguments to her view and the other views.…

In Susan Wolf’s paper “The Meanings of Lives,” she discusses the qualifications of and the innate human yearning for a meaningful and fulfilling life. The foundation for her argument lies in her three criterion for meaning which include involvement, purpose, and success. She then continues her argument by explaining the opposite of each of these criterion as a stereotypical person. However, Wolf’s assertion suffers from being overly general in that it makes the assumption that all humans have access to the same resources and opportunities to perform the tasks required to be considered meaningful by her standards.…
