Life As An Expert Pitcher

While we may be able to predict the fastballs in our life like how we’ll go to high school and then college, or maybe visit a foreign country, there are always curveballs, sliders, forkballs, and changups. These things we cannot predict like the death of a loved one, a friend struggling with depression, a break up that you could’ve never imagined, or maybe finding out your parents are getting a divorce. The only thing we can strive for is to hit the ball at the best angle. Sometimes we knock it out of the park, other times we completely miss and strike out. I had an audition. I knew

I have played baseball ever since I was a young kid, but somehow, at seventeen I still had numerous struggles with it. You would think after my grandpa being drafted to the Pittsburgh Pirates, a Major League baseball team, and my dad getting a full ride to the University of Denver their skill would have rubbed off on me, but you would be wrong. I wasn't terrible, I could hit a 90 mile per hour fastball and I could, for the most part, field a ground ball. However, I was definitely not about to be scouted by the college scouts.…

In reality, how often will somebody encounter a situation where everything worked out exactly how they expected it to? In John Irving’s novel, A Prayer for Owen Meany, the main character, Johnny Wheelwright, references a quote from Thomas Hardy that answers this question: “Nothing bears out in practice what it promises incipiently”. To put it another way, this quote implies that in actuality, things will not usually work out how someone might initially expect it to. The reader can see this motif illustrated throughout Johnny’s documented adventure. This tale of self-maturation and growth revolves around the story of Johnny Wheelwright along with his unusually short companion Owen Meany.…

The story “one throw” by w.c. Heinz shows that integrity is the most important characteristic for success. 1 Quote: “I mean there’s nothing wrong with playing. I’m hitting .360 right now. I lead the league in stolen bases, there’s nobody can field with me, but who cares”(Heinz 3). It takes something impressive to get someone’s attention and that’s exactly what happened.…

Baseball: the sport where you stand around for 20 minutes and move 3 feet to the left and move 3 feet to the right. It’s so intense. It’s so intense that you could take a nap on the field with everything out there. Of course, I’m being sarcastic. The only time it’s actually fun is when you’re annihilating the other team while they’re asleep on the field.…

My very first baseball game I can remember it like it was yesterday. A hot sunny day Burning the pavement, the heat beating down on our car as we drive to downtown Houston. After three exhausting hours and two tire blowouts we finally arrived at Minute Maid Park the home of the Houston Astros, my first baseball game. Once we got past the security line we were free to go to our seats which were located in the middle of first and home. We got there about half an hour before the game started so the batters were out in the batting cage crushing the ball with a mighty swing, I was hypnotized by how gracefully they moved their…

I had no idea how I was supposed to hit a ball that was flying through the air. I grabbed a helmet that was clearly too small for my overly large head, and headed up to the plate. I could hear my dad behind the fence repeating, “keep your eye on the ball.” I had one goal in mind; to keep my eye on that ball. The pitcher wound up, and chucked the ball towards me.…

Life is simply perspective. Some say that you have your whole life to do something, while others will argue that life is short and you should enjoy it to the full extent of it’s worth. You can look at something as exquisite, or atrocious. It doesn’t change what it is, but it changes your reaction to it. No matter how sure you are about the morality, someone else could view it differently.…

It was Albert Einstein who said that the only way to live life was as though everything is a miracle. It is a miracle that I am able to walk from my bed and see the sunlight through my window. A well lived life is also one that has been done with good intentions and positive perspectives.…
