When problems arise and one has to make a choice, the choice is based on what is best for the individual. When is life and death decision, do we think about what is ethical or not? How much do an outside person influence you on the decision that you are about to make, knowing that you have to deal with the consequences alone? In the case it states that Susan was uncomfortable about abortion, however, she didn’t state her ethical point of view. By her, seeking advice from her doctor and a friend who is an evolutionary biologist their belief will be influenced by science. The doctor and the professor’s suggestions contradict with the Christian worldview belief. Even though it doesn’t directly state that abortion is wrong, Jeremiah 1:5, states "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations." In the Christian view abortion is wrong because, in God’s eyes, God already knew how the child will be. Even though the child will have Down syndrome that is God’s purpose, for it to have a life that is why it’s placed in Susan’s womb. In Luke 1:36, it talks about Elizabeth would was of an old age was unable to conceive, but God, said she was six months pregnant and In Luke 1:41 it says that Elizabeth child was leaped out of her womb and she was filled with joy. Compared to how things used to be in the past, people’s attitude toward children with Down syndrome has changed. From the silent Eugenics Article it says that “studies suggest that the majority of parents of a child with Down syndrome report that having to deal with the disability has brought positive changes in their lives. These parents report high rates of happiness, family strength, and personal confidence. Common experiences include a new or increased sense of purpose in life, the acquisition of new skills, and an increased regard for spirituality.” (Shriver2007) Which contradicts with what the professor said about how Susan as a caretaker will be affected negatively. Even though she may be uneasy and nervous about raising a child with Down syndrome, the fact that she is able to adjust her life for the sake of child will be something rewarding for a parent. Keeping the child would be rewarding because you are able to defy all the negative things they said about Down syndrome
