I am a 21 year old color blind hockey player. I was born in Pocatello, Idaho and in 2003 I moved to Fort Collins, Colorado with my parents. I went to Fossil Ridge High school and right after I graduated I started to move around the country to play hockey. The first place that I moved to was Elpaso, Texas and I hated it. Then, I moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico and that was better but still not my favorite. After that, I went up to Spokane, Washington and then I finally moved to Lakewood, Colorado last year. I really love Colorado and enjoy everything that this state has to offer. Like the all of the outdoor sports and activities there are. Mostly all of this summer I was working everyday so I could pay for college and on my free time …show more content…
You can tell me or make me read something I will learn those ways but the fastest way for me to learn to have me do it. I learn really fast from my mistakes. I don’t like failing something so if it happens once then I will try my hardest not to have it happen again. I can get very motivated if I’m intrigued in the subject. If I feel like I’m being forced and having useless knowledge thrown at me, I will check out and not pay attention. Outside of English I’m a lot more confident of a student. English has always been my weakest subject so I’m not very keen to answering questions in class. I kind of shy away from getting called on and just hide away from the discussions. Where as in other classes I’m much more willing to be involved in discussions. For this class I am going to trying harder to participate since I want to here and that I am paying for it, so I want to get the most out of …show more content…

Upon reading DiAngelo & Sensoy there were five main points of concern addressed within the article. These topics had concern on the basis that the students coming into this course may more or less be unprepared and unwilling to open their minds up to this new material. The first main point was about aiming for intellectual humility. The authors claimed that this meant the students are apprehensive about learning new material and challenging their current and developed beliefs. This main point makes a reference to an astronomy student conflicting with his teacher on the existence of Pluto.…

Writing has changed my perspective on various aspects of my life. Some of the essays that I have written in the past have opened doors to new ideas. These essays have helped me make connections I feel I never would have made without writing. I believe this is because I enter my deepest level of concentration when I write. This heightened level of concentration I reach when writing has allowed me to reflect on important areas in my life such as self-awareness and motivation.…

I have become more proficient in my class participation because because I have gotten used to the people in my classes as well as the teachers. In the beginning of the year I rarely participated in any class because I didn't feel comfortable that I didn't know them well. But as I interacted more with my peers so I started participating more and more. Another thing that I have become more proficient in class is my note taking. Before I used to not take any notes for any class because they didn't seem important.…

Throughout this semester, I have learned about critical thinking and writing skills. Emphasizing on proper documentation, quoting books, articles, websites, and creating a work cited. With organization, punctuation, and appropriate grammar by learning how to read a document and analyze it correctly to find these errors. I have learned a lot about all these things, even though I still make mistakes in some of these I have learned to be able to correct a lot of these errors in revising. Reading and analyzing was a major concept that I learned throughout my English 1A course.…

The Other Side of the Lens Peering through the viewfinder, I adjusted the focal length of the lens. The girls flitted within the frame, fueled by a sugar-induced hysteria. All five cradled ice cream cones, exuberantly embracing each other with sticky hands. Crisp pine trees lined the path through camp, framing the elated chaos. With a click, I stopped down the aperture, extending the depth of field and drawing each member of my wacky sixth grade group into focus.…

Out of all my years in a language arts class, this year has been most helpful and I have made most progress. Over the course of this year I have become a master of grammar and vocabulary through our daily activities. I have learned to take people’s advice with my writings. In many past years I would not let other people edit my papers or even read them to give me feedback about the writing but I have learned that other people can see things you may have missed when editing. This year, I have also learned to stay on topic when writing and to not switch back and forth between topics.…

Every child learns early on not to “judge a book by its cover,” yet everyday people constantly judge one another by their appearance without reason. The enduring understanding “you have a view of the world that your upbringing and experiences have shaped” highlights the root of the judgment that most people show towards one another. I chose to focus on this enduring understanding because I thought that it was the most relatable one for the greatest number of people. I also choose this enduring understanding because I think that growing up wealthy gives me a different perspective of the world than I would have had if I had grown up poor and homeless. I felt that this enduring understanding fit my life well; therefore, I had no need to change…

Where has time gone? I am now a freshman in college writing well-developed papers with over 1,000 words, trying to master and hone my skills I’ve gained over the years. No longer am I that tiny little kid sitting in the back of the room in my kindergarten class, learning how to write words and learn the fundamentals of writing. As I went through middle school and then high school, I learned more skills to create a well thought out paper. Although I’ve written papers almost my entire life, it seems like, I’m not perfect at writing papers but then again not everyone is.…

Sitting in the conference room, the meeting was like any other at my internship with a sexual assault awareness group. My boss tells us about legal definitions of different crimes from stalking to domestic violence while I doodle on my notepad, having heard this all before. “Sexual assault,” she said, “states multiple acts that some people don’t realize count as sexual crimes.” Of course, forced sexual intercourse (rape), attempted rape, force into doing sexual acts, “and even fondling or unwanted sexual touching of any kind,” she said. Those words rang in my head over and over again.…

Throughout life, we learn different lessons be it from a teacher such as your parents, guardians, spouse, etc. or just going out and living and collecting experiences. From these, we grow and become the person we are today. We learn to shape us into the person we are and motivate the things we do and believe. I believe heavily in three core things I’ve learned in my life through experience. These core principles are Trust is something earned, sometimes you must think outside the box, and don’t let the bad moments outshine the good.…
