Love is powerful and can never be wrong but the people and events surrounding it may cause it to end in tragedy. In the tragic play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet were young and fall deeply in love at first sight. However, their love quickly ends and so do their lives because of secrets and a long-standing feud between their families. In the play, Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare demonstrates that mentors love, guide, and sometimes do not give the best advice through the use of Friar Laurence secretly marrying Romeo and Juliet and the Nurse by helping to facilitate their relationship and then betraying Juliet telling her to marry Paris that eventually proves that lies and secrets destroys what is good and leaves only destruction behind. …show more content…
At first, Friar Laurence showed concern about them getting married too quickly but ultimately encouraged it after he thought it might cease the two families’ feud. “So smile the heavens upon this holy act that after-hours with sorrow chide us not!” Friar Laurence hopes that only good things will come out of Romeo and Juliet’s hasty marriage, but he also worries what might happen if their deception is discovered. Friar Laurence even warned Romeo to have patience and not rush into love because it may end in disaster. But he didn’t listen to his own advice and goes on to marry them anyway. If Friar Laurence did not marry them, Romeo and Juliet would not have fallen in love so deeply that they couldn’t live without each other.
