Lies And Manipulation In George Orwell's Animal Farm

Animal Farm is a book based off of communism in Russia with the representation of animals, barn houses, and some deaths. Also it only showed the major events of Communism in Russia. In Animal Farm, Orwell develops the theme of lies and manipulation through the setting, characters, and the plot. The characters develop to the theme based off of Napoleon the leader who constantly changes things to keep his motto “ Napoleon is always right” and Squealer the provada who covers up the lies and manipulates them and cover up the lies. The setting contributes to the theme because it is used to divide the “classes” like the pigs living in the farmhouse and not doing no work, and the animals are the working class who live in the barn and do all work. The characters also go with the theme because the pigs were starting to change commandments, drinking, and even walking like humans, the motto used to be “four legs good, two legs bad” but once they walked on their legs it was “four legs good, two legs better”.The characters also contribute to the theme based on their actions for example Squealer changing the commandments “later Muriel, reading over the Seven Commandments to herself, noticed that there was yet another of them which the animals had remembered wrong. They had thought the Fifth Commandment was"No animal shall drink alcohol," but there were two words that they had forgotten. Actually the Commandment read: "No animal shall drink alcohol to excess." this shows how they changed them to stay in power and they did not tell the truth they tried to cover it up because they know that majority of animals are not educated.
