The number one theme of this film is lies and deceit. This theme is hinted every moment in the film. It was the most obvious theme. The majority of the characters or accusers in “The Crucible” are lying, some because of boredom, fear or simply for no reason and some for personal gain. A scene that conveys this theme is when Betty ( Parris’s daughter) was telling Abbigale that she didn’t confess fully to Parris that she drank the blood ( A charm) to kill Proctors wife, “ABIGAIL: Betty, you never say that again! You will never—
BETTY: You did, you did! You drank a charm to kill John Proctor's wife! You drank a charm to kill Goody Proctor!”. After this Abbigale gave Betty a slap across the face which made her fall in the bed. Then Abbigale was

There were many themes while reading The Crucible by Arthur Miller, but the one I thought was most consistent throughout the book was a lack of honesty and faith. The book is based off of the story of the Salem witch trials; where young girls who have claimed to have seen the devil started accusing most of the town of witchcraft. It all began from a lack of honesty and kept progressing because of faith by the court. Abigail is the antagonist of the story and John Proctor is the protagonist. While John's wife was sick, John commits a sin by conducting adultery with Abigail.…

In The Crucible by Arthur Miller, theocracy proved to be a major downfall in Salem as a result of how it affected the way trials were run, how the laws were arranged and enforced, and how the accused were dealt with. The trials in Salem undoubtedly revolved around God, as shown throughout the court sessions. However, the court was blind to the sins that were committed. A Fable of Witchcraft “He who tells a lie is not sensible how great a task he undertakes; for he must be forced to invent twenty more to maintain that one.” (Alexander Pope). Arthur Miller proves this point very strongly in his dramatic work, The Crucible. One of the main themes in this story is that of lying and how a simple lie can create chaos, more lies and overreactions. In the tragedy, The Crucible, Arthur Miller suggests that when people tell a lie that the situation can quickly spiral out of control and more lies will unfold to build upon the one already told; as a result of her series of lies, Abigail Williams became so uneasy that she left Salem, proving that liars never win.…

The mindset for most was to save yourself by lying and accusing others. Miller uses Parris and Elizabeth Proctor to display this common mindset.
