Licensed Professional Counselor-License Analysis

In Illinois, the person that wishes to become a counselor will need two levels of licensing. The Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and the Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) (Counselor-License, 2015). The person will earn a license through education and examination. In order to get the LCPC license, the person would need to work under supervision, and complete an additional exam (Counselor-License, 2015).
In order to get a counseling license in Illinois, the person will need to get their masters or doctors, in a counseling or related field (Counselor-License, 2015).
While in the graduate program, the person must have a course in the following areas: Counseling Theory; Counseling techniques; Human and growth development, research

In getting the LCPC license, a person would need to fill out the registration forms, and prove that you have had the required education requirements (Counselor-License, 2015).
A person would need to work under supervision for two years. A year of experience must include no less than 960 hours of face to face direct counseling with clients. The experience must be completed in no less than 48 weeks (Counselor-License, 2015). A person must complete your degree requirement before they begin their fieldwork. Your supervisor must be a licensed clinical counselor, psychiatrist, clinical psychologist, or licensed social worker (Counselor-License, 2015). In order to take their LCPC license, a person would need to following documentation: Proof of certification; School transcripts; and verification of experience (Counselor-License, 2015). A person may also need: Academic criteria document; License verification; and certificate of education (with school seal) (Counselor-License, 2015).
