I knew before I applied to Liberty University that I wanted to be a part of the Honors Program. After attending a question and answer session regarding the program last year, the Honors Program seemed to be a place where I could challenge myself in my courses and make life-long friends along the way. The environment seemed warm and accepting, yet also competitive and encouraging. After learning about all the Honors Program has to offer, I know it will be a wonderful fit for me during my time at Liberty University. One of the greatest benefits I hope to gain from the Honors Program at Liberty University is an excellent education that aligns with my faith. Students are often away from home for the first time without their parents, and must quickly mature to stay happy and healthy on their own. With these changes come many new temptations, and students must make important decisions about how they behave and who they allow to influence their lives. Fortunately, Liberty has many rules for the students to keep them accountable and in accordance with a Christian standard of living. The group of people with whom I would spend my time in the Honors Program would keep me accountable for my actions during a time of great change in my life. Very few Christians at secular universities could find that kind of support in environments where temptations to sin have saturated the campus. As a Christian, the environment of Liberty and the Honors Program will be extremely beneficial to growing in my relationship with God. While it will be a daunting task, the chance to write a Senior Thesis will be quite academically beneficial to my future. The mere experience of preparing a lengthy research project such as a senior thesis would make future, graduate-level research projects less of a burden, particularly a doctoral dissertation, should I choose to obtain a doctoral degree. While a doctoral dissertation is a project of a much greater magnitude, a senior thesis would give me a taste of writing such a lengthy …show more content…
I have competed in quiz bowl for the past eight years, and it has been a splendid experience, both in the competition and in the friendships formed along the way. In my home county, fifth- and sixth-graders who are in the TAG (Talented and Gifted) Program have the opportunity to compete in a county-wide tournament with students from neighboring schools. I competed in this tournament for two years, and quickly discovered my love for quiz bowl. When I was in the seventh and eighth grades, I was captain of my school’s junior high quiz bowl team. We place second in the county tournament when I was in seventh grade, and won the tournament when I was in eighth grade. I have been a varsity member of my high school quiz bowl team each year of high school, with a regular season championship and third-place county finish my junior year, and a currently undefeated regular season my senior year. Quiz bowl has strongly encouraged my love of learning. I have spent many hours over the past years poring over lists of facts to increase my knowledge of the world and to become a better player for my team. It would be a great delight to become a Liberty Quiz Bowl Team member in the near

The Honors College at Auburn is designed to challenge the students that have showed academic excellence in their high school careers. The college should help students think more openly about the problems in today’s world, and lets face it, they are numerous. With the help of professors, the students in the Honors college should be able to pinpoint the source of a particular problem as well as the solution. I am not saying that the students will change the world with their way of thinking, but the students will be taught perspective. This type of thinking can only be mimicked in a challenging environment with people who are pushing each other to be better.…

I also believe that my high school experience, in such a unique and diverse school, would allow me to contribute greatly to the honors community. WHY I WANT TO JOIN THE HONORS PROGRAM Alighting from a Boeing 747 jetliner on the JFK tarmac on Thursday evening, April 28, 2016, I walked into what could be called a new page in my life story—a new start. That was my first time on this side of the hemisphere. With little money, zero friends, one close relative and little to hold on to, I found myself leaning on only a thread of asset – my mind. Knowing this, I vowed to keep this God given asset alive and growing with all my soul and might, and what better way to do this than to identify with people of like passion, people who will add to me.…
