Liberty University Analysis

I recently attended a Liberty University Convocation that really spoke to me while attending College For a Weekend. While I sat in the Vines’ Center seats, I listened to Donald Miller talk about the four kinds of people in a story: the victim, the villain, the hero, and the guide. I personally feel that my trials through life were given to me so I could fulfill the role of a guide in my life and others. My perspective is not commonly found in society today and I have a strong desire in my heart to help. I believe that Liberty University can help me grow and develop leadership skills to become what God has intended me to be to glorify him while helping others in their own individual lives. Trials and tribulations develop character, and I would not trade mine for any in the world. I have personally experienced overwhelming depression, crippling anxiety, and severe hurt prior to my senior year which allows me to have an open mind and a better sense of empathy when others have the same issues I did. Going to Liberty would give me …show more content…
I have never in my life, nor do I ever plan on, drinking, partaking in drugs, smoking or abusing the honor system in any way. I currently volunteer at the elementary school where I live, I am apart of the Let’s Go! leadership program, and I am currently a member of the National Honors Society at school. I also am involved in Interact and in The Empty Bowls Project, where students create bowls to raise awareness for the hungry and needy. The autistic community is a favorite of mine when it comes to volunteering, as there are those with autism in my family and I have been blessed with the opportunity to constantly give help specifically to those with the disability. I believe that God has commanded us to be stewards of the earth and helpful to others, as outlined in Matthew 25:35-40, a verse I grew up with in a service-minded

Responsible Leaders are servant leaders, accountable for their actions and their consequences. I am attending GCU because I am learning important values to succeed in life. I am learning that “faith is a precious gift for those who have it and without it, nothing is possible” (Joyce, 2012, p.132). GCU’s vision is leading a Christian academy by educating scholars to become leaders and servants (Mission and Vision at Grand Canyon University, 2008,…

We must serve our awesome God. When God came to earth as a man, Jesus, he didn’t just enjoy it, he worked, he served others. There are so many examples in the Bible of serving others. 1 Peter 4:10, Matthew 20:28, Proverbs 11:25, 1 Corinthians 9:19. My favorite two verses that explain servantship so well are Acts 20:35, “....…

When the British government decided to collect additional taxes from the colonies, in a way they were also trying to prove their power over the colonies, but “by natural rights the colonist deserved: a right to life, liberty and property… they also had the right to peaceably and quietly worship God according to the dictates of his conscience” (Samuel Adams, P.1) These rights were not respected by the British, or at least that is what colonies felt at the time, by given them not enough rights, limitating them, using their resources and, in a way, taking advantage of them by recollecting additional taxes, the British were creating a disagreement in how they manage the colonies and how the colonies wanted to be managed, especially since they were…

I have a set of values that are exceptionally important in how I choose to live and grow in my life. At the very top of this set, I have found that the following three seem most relevant in my life: a sense of unity and community, strong relationships and family involvement, and the practice of altruism. A member of our community that displays these values and inspires me to build on these values is Mona Hjerpe. Mona is extremely present in the town of Hutchinson and does a great deal of work helping those with developmental disabilities; an area where I have also developed a strong passion. The values listed above help Mona with leading those with developmental disabilities in activities that will help them serve their community.…

Radley Balko is an esteemed columnist with the publications carrying his work ranging from major news outlets like FoxNew.com and the Washington Post, to other periodicals such as Playboy. Additionally, he is the senior editor of the American libertarian magazine Reason. The Cato Institute, a self ascribed “American Libertarian think tank”, published this essay in which Balko calls for an end to the socialistic progression of American healthcare with a focus on obesity. Denying that federal anti-obesity measures will have any effect on the obesity epidemic, and rather assuring people what they consume is the upmost private matter, somewhere in between repressed childhood memories and your social security number. Ungar and his Liberal Arts Degree Sanford J. Ungar, the writer of “The New Liberal Arts”, argues that a liberal arts degree isn’t as questionable of a decision as believed to be. He trusts that a smaller independent college is a much more intimate setting where students continue learning habits that only better their mentality in terms of education and personality and will stick with them throughout the rest of their lives. More specifically Ungar believes that attending a liberal arts school provides as close connection with faculty and a chance for young adults to learn responsibilities while getting an education at the same time, just to name a few (Ungar 232). Overall, Ungar goes about his argument in a very unique and organized manner…

One very important thing in my life is autism , which also affects my life since my little sister who has it takes up a large portion of my life but, not because she is disabled. Another very important thing to me is how autistic children are treated in general , any day I would gladly take a stand against some of the ways they are treated. Since I have first hand accounts of how hard it is to take care of them, but also how they are judged not just by kids but by adults too. There therapy and education is very important because they need to be taught and if that is ever jeopardized it is also something I would gladly fight for. They need and deserve any treatment they can get and learning is just as important for them as it for us.…

In Eric Foner’s textbook Give Me Liberty! He spends two chapters talking about the Civil Rights Movement, and when we read it alone he did a very good job looking at the history of the movement. Though, if we use Hands on the Freedom Plow as a foundation we see another side of the Movement. The struggle the women who were the movement faced trying to bring about change. He never covered the pride they felt, the hidden anger that fueled this social rebellion, nor what they had to do to keep themselves safe.…

The learning link I have chosen is on the great Greek philosopher Plato. Plato accomplished many things in his life, from inspiring the Christian religion to his influential political views. His life contributed to the study of philosophy in so many ways. Plato demonstrated two of the four classical greek virtues in his lifetime--courage and prudence; Although he may have lived centuries ago, his life and virtues relate to me in various ways. Plato, which means the broad one, showed signs of the virtue courage (2007).…
