“Better to die fighting for freedom then be a prisoner all the days of your life”, is a quote by Bob Marley. I believe that this quote brings to light the true concept behind liberty, something that was displayed very heavily in World War one. I think that liberty played a huge role in this war for the civilians and soldiers of the allied forces. Firstly, liberty applies to World War one in the aspect of women and their rights. Before this war had started, women in Britain were not treated as equals, and did not have the same rights as men. For example, women did not have the right to vote, work in paid jobs and work in government jobs. I think that World War one was a big change for the women of Britain because women got a lot more rights like voting and compulsory rationing. Secondly, liberty applies to World War one as each country was trying to maintain their own freedom. For example, Serbia’s liberty was disrupted by the Archduke of Austria Hungary as he tried to take some of Serbia’s land. I believe that this poster shows liberty in a very positive way. For instance, due to the absence of men, the women are now given the opportunity to work. Before World War one, women were only allowed to stay at home while their husbands worked. But during the war, due to the increased demand, women were given the liberty to do activities beyond the scope of their homes. As such, I believe that this poster relates to liberty because it shows how the women are allowed more freedom and rights.
