1. While most high school seniors are irresolute about what they will choose as a career, I have a strong desire to decide on a career in medicine. I have had this urging since I was a young child, and my interest in medicine has only expanded as I have grown older. My passion for not only medical science, but also helping others, has prompted me to pursue a medical degree; and being a student in The Program in Liberal Medical Education at Brown University would be the optimum choice for me in achieving my goal. What has drawn me the most to choose a career in medicine was a personal experience. When I was three years old, I was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. For the next three years, I spent numerous hours in the hospital; so I was around doctors for a great deal of time. It was during this time that I first began to dream of becoming a doctor, and this was because of the positive effect that my doctors had on me. I aspire to help others the way that my doctors helped me, because I am extraordinarily blessed to be healthy today. Personally, the program will benefit me in that it would put me in a small class environment while still integrating me with students from other areas of study. The liberal arts education combined with courses to prepare students for a career in medicine is academically beneficial because it allows students to become more well-rounded and exposed to coursework outside of their main focus.
