In Liam O’Flaherty's short story "The Sniper" is the protagonist who is an experienced Republican sniper in the Battle of Dublin. Furthermore, the main conflict in this story is that two brothers are opposing each other both doubtless of whom they may end up shooting. However, besides the main conflict, the protagonist is shot in his arm which makes him weak and less powerful. Additionally, the protagonist is a risk taker, a cigarette smoker, a quick thinker and of course an experienced young sniper. Also, some of the traits of the sniper that are crucial are that he smokes a cigarette and that he is a careless risk taker.
