I feel the same struggle as you when I think about how prisoners are incarcerated because they violated a law. It is difficult for me to even imagine what an ideal prison would be like where people are punished, rehabilitated, and cared for all at the same time. I understand why our criminal justice system and correctional system is in a constant state of evolution. Prisoners should not feel like prison is a luxurious vacation (I'm exaggerating the idea, I don't think any prisoner would ever describe prison like this!) but they should also be provided a lifestyle where they can enjoy the basic standard of human rights- safety/free of abuse, food, clothing, education, etc. All the things I think every person in the world has a right to. Prisoner's rights is such a delicate topic I think because so many people who are not incarcerated are not given the opportunity to live a life with all their basic needs satisfied so it is difficult to empathize and fight for rights on behalf of prisoners who have wronged society when they do not have basic rights and needs themselves. Very tough
