There are many different understandings of the LGBT community, so much different information about the LGBT community can be confusing. LGBT means Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender and about 6.7% of the United States adult population identifies as LGBT ("Five LGBT Facts You Should Know." Web. 22 Nov. 2015). Another name for LGBT is LGBPTTQQIIAA+ and stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Pansexual, Transgender, Transsexual, Queer, Questioning, Intersex, Intergender, Asexual, or Ally. LGBT is just one facet of the numerous different sexualities, there are over 20 different categories of sexualities, and there is always more being made. The recognition of the different categories of sexuality is making our society a more open place because people feel as if they can be themselves now that there is a name for their sexuality, and that the topic of sexuality is no longer taboo. In ancient Rome there was conflicting attitudes towards sex, while the Romans were not prude they did practice depravity or moderation while holding onto their high ideals to control female sexuality. Although in general the Romans regarded marriage as a heterosexual union for producing children, in the early Imperial period some male couples were celebrating traditional marriage rites in the presence of friends.
