The LGBT community now is consider a subgroup because they are joining forces to fight for equal rights. “LGBT people still face both individual and systemic discrimination.” (Sfcenter.org. 2017). This community understands and supports each other because the suffering, discrimination, and hate they had encounter. They also promote different programs that will help their community. For example, health and wellness, which promotes information regarding STD’s, HIV/AIDS and other general health concerns. (Sfcenter.org. 2017)

The military policy “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”, was in effect from 1993-2011. (Encyclopeaedia Britannica Inc. 2017). When I join the military, I saw the discrimination towards the gay and lesbians and suffering while hiding their feelings. One of my supervisors after 15 years of service, end up leaving the military in 2009 because he was tired of suppressing his feelings. I personally, do not care what they do in their personal life a longest is not affecting their work ethics. President Obama lift this policy on September 20, 2011.

We have to be open-minded and support everyone’s personal decisions. The Air Force has a month that celebrates the LGBT pride month. I think the United States should have a month of awareness and spreading positive information and reminding people that the LGBT community is not taboo like in the early 2000’s.

The minorities in this country still encounters prejudice and discrimination. I do not think that this will go away because the way one culture tries to control over other cultures and beliefs. This will be minimized once we see each other as equal and have cultural
