Abstract
There are millions of people in the world that are suffering with obesity and feel like there is no way to change things around. When a person is faced with numerous challenges, their confidence decreases and they start to justify or try to justify whey they are the way they are but being a counselor I do not justify the reasons, I simply help them see the problems they face and help them accomplish the goals they want to achieve. My case study is about a male name Roger who is suffering with obesity and having homosexual thoughts. During these sessions with Roger, I will talk about his family history, past relationships, and get Roger to speak his dreams into reality. …show more content…
One of them would be the use of a journal to keep track of Roger’s feelings and emotions about both the sessions and the exercises, and keeping track of his food intake (Kushner, 2014). Having a form of documentation is beneficial to both me and Roger because it shows the changes that have occurred over the duration of the sessions. When dealing with the homosexual thoughts, I would tell Roger that his thoughts are not uncommon when a male feels uncomfortable with his appearance and weight. I would also give roger a few different resources to read and reach out to that can further discuss homosexuality in men because I do not know everything that a male goes through when dealing with homosexuality. Another technique that I would use is the internet to help Roger get a better understanding and more knowledge of all of his health issues along with maybe helping his get into online dating if he is not comfortable with going out in public at first. The use of the internet can also help Roger find other groups of individuals that are out in the world dealing with the same problems he is having. According to Burlew & Shurts (2013), the internet has given obese men images of other men and their progress since they have changed their lives and become their desirable weight. The internet has also been a huge factor in helping obese men gets into the dating world when they are not comfortable going out on dates or meeting when at first due to their weight (Burlew & Shurts,
