Leviticus's Knowledge Of The Old Testament

I do not have a great knowledge of the bible. I am familiar with the main stories taught in Sunday school and the stories that my family told me, however I know very little about the Old Testament. I am able to recall many of the main stories as well as a few chapters in the Old Testament, but I would say that my knowledge is strongly lacking. My main knowledge of the Old Testament is there are many prophets, holy figures, and foreshadowing for what Jesus will be like when he comes. Some parts of the Bible confuse me and make me question how people cannot believe God although I feel that this is just the way, we as humans, have always been. The anger God shows at times also confuses me. If he truly loves all of his children, why would he send plagues and other disasters to kill all of …show more content…
With all of his power why can he not change the way these people act. A part of the Old Testament that I feel contradicts the world today is Leviticus. In Leviticus, some of the laws are outdated and people choose which of these rules they want to follow and which ones they want to ignore. There are the laws that talk about not having clothing made from two different materials, not shaving one’s beard, and not marking the body with cuts or tattoos. Countless Christians ignore those laws of the bible and do not feel those laws are important however there is a law that a number of Christians still follow. That law refers to gay marriage; so many Christians refer to the bible for that verse, but ignore all the others that they are breaking. There is a lot of contradiction in the world about those laws; what is acceptable and what is not. The Bible is also outdated in these ways too. The world is constantly changing and it is considerably different from the world in the Bible. In the world today, most clothing is made from two or more fabrics. It is also common for people to have tattoos, it is not something looked down upon anymore it is just an everyday

But I do admit we live in a changing world. The norm is evolving at a rapid pace. Americans have pushed the envelope when it comes to what’s socially acceptable. Things that were looked down upon such as gay marriage, women’s rights and other touchy topics have changed. What makes the story of Noah so captivating? Possibly the perspective of a widespread flood, or maybe that the story is considered unique to the Old Testament. However, what if I told you that the story of a global flood is not unique to the Old Testament, but it is in fact a story told in many different cultures. This is the case with the Old Testament, and the ancient Mesopotamian story the Epic of Gilgamesh. Although the two stories share many similarities, the flood stories in both piece of literature are not the exact same.…

As well as using opinion as fact the wavering of opinion does not leave enough evidence to come to a proper conclusion. Throughout, Lasine’s article he switches between the book or Exodus and the book of Genesis to show how in different stories God is depicted either wrathful or merciful. This works for the author making the point that in Exodus God is depicted as wrathful and in Genesis God is merciful, but again this is opinion and only bits and pieces of the two books. Lasine chooses stories from Exodus as well as pieces of these stories that will show how God is wrathful. For example, Lasine focuses on the story of Moses and the ultimate attack on him but leaves out parts where God is showing compassion and love.…

In works based on the Christian religion God is often portrayed as all-knowing and all-powerful. This is how God is portrayed throughout Paradise Lost, he is always able to stop Satan because he always has a plan. One plan by God that is seen in the text is the creation of humankind. He wants a new species, one with free will, not a creation that will follow God because they are programmed to, but because they believe it is the right thing to do. However, God seems upset at some of mankind’s choices when he says ……

Within this paper, I will defend a side of the Euthyphro’s Dilemma. A classic question that is directed towards religious people and beliefs, that asks where is the source of morality? Is something moral because God commands it or does God commands something moral because it is good? I believe what is morally good is for a fact of God commands it to be so; anything may be considered moral, but we as humans don’t have the power to decide whether something is moral or not. Thus giving sovereignty and acknowledgement of his divine command which is the foundation of morality.…
