Sharing is caring, and there are a lot of things you share with family—a name, a home, food, traditions, genes, and hopefully, love and respect. The Lamaskos are a family of three people: Francine, John, and their father. They live in the little town of Freeland, Pennsylvania, in a big house they’ve shared since 2005. Sources state that on the paternal half of her family, Francine has two aunts and one uncle, as well as a grandmother who loves to bake and knit. Her grandmother, Nancy, introduced Portuguese heritage and genes to the family, as well as exposing her children to arts such as cooking, knitting and sewing, and wood carving.…

Art is like a window to the mind, representing how one thinks or what one feels. In some cases, it may contain elements from one’s unconscious; elements that even they are not aware of themselves. Art has zero qualifications, allowing it to be crafted by anyone and everyone, while still containing components of its creator and provoking feelings in its spectators. (Rustin, 2008) Of the pieces involved in the Best of the Season exhibit at the Webber Gallery, Lunch With Einstein by David D’Alessandris is one of the more “unusual” pieces. It contains four figures, whose heads seem to be taken from elsewhere and pasted onto their bodies.…

If one cannot communicate, how can one expect any piece of art to withstand the tests of time? To inspire and to move people centuries after publication? Communication is the most important factor in determining the trajectory of artistic creation. This applies to artists all across the board; it is the only “rule” I believe can be applied to the ever-changing objectivity of art. Performers, musicians, writers and visual artists alike are said to “breathe life” into their mediums.…

The basic tenets of materialism and abstraction often clash against one another. Materialism, after all, results in “shapeless, [describable] emotions such as fear and joy,” while abstraction encompasses those “inner, subtler feelings…beyond the reach of words” (Section I, Paragraph 4). These contrasting depths of emotion give rise to the potent tension between materialism and abstraction in Section VI, Paragraph 18 of Kandinsky’s essay “Concerning the Spiritual in Art.” Here, Kandinsky comments on those “rhomboidal composition[s] made up of a number of human figures [which are] an absolute necessity to the composition,” criticizing the figures’ material appeal for “directly weakening [the composition’s] abstract appeal.” While Kandinsky correctly…
