Levent Tuncer is a Turkish/American artist. He was born in Turkey. At the age of 18, he moved to London where he lived for 8 years. After that, Tuncer moved to United States, his home the last 36 years. He studied at the University of Hartford. Later, he moved to Tampa where he lives today. He travels to New York each month, where he has most of his paintings. Tuncer is recognized for include in his paintings ideas of history of the 16th and 19th century, ideas of repetition, order, disorder and fiction. Tuncer’s primordial awareness in his paintings is the duality between good and evil inherent in all cultures. For example, he is from Turkey and his native language is Turkish. But he is living in United States, which means that if he wants to talk with us he has to talk in English. This shows us that he is using protocol codes by speaking other language. Another behavioral code are the rituals that he implement when he is creating a new piece. Levent Tuncer states, “I sleep and paint, all day long”. Also, “I create a space inside my head. Outside, I have a mess, the things are over the place and do not remove them until I have to use it”. Second, verbal language codes. Tuncer was talking to us with a correct voice tone, giving the impression that he was calm, interested and happy to have us with him. Additionally, he told us, “Art is a language, if you are not interested, you won’t get nothing from it”. Using a tone emphasizing the phrase and make us understand better the art. Third, bodily codes. Levent was using gestures with his hands and correct posture while talking. For example, he was using his hands to show us his last painting at one side of the room (a white and big one near the corner of the room) and his smallest painting at the other side (the dead black and white insect).
