To test our theory that lettuce plants absorb nutrients more efficiently with nutrient circulation than without circulation, we designed an experiment using a water pump for the treatment group. To set up the experiment we used 2- plastic six-quart storage containers for the control and treatment groups. The containers each had tight fitting lids that contained 4 holes to place yogurt containers in each, with a total of 8 yogurt cups between both groups. Next, two small holes were drilled into each yogurt cup that allowed us to pull an 8” wick through the holes, the wicks were designed to be inserted into the water for nutrient absorption. Each lettuce container (yogurt cup) was filled with vermiculite used as a moisture retaining medium. Approximately
