The letters Marjane writes is a symbol of the differing social classes in Iran. Marjane writes letters for her maid, Mehri, who doesnt know how to read or write. Mehri does not know how to read or write because her family sent her off to work at a young ge, so she never went to school. Marjane writes the letter because Mehri has a crush on her neighborhood, who is of an upper social class.
