If the grading standards were to improve and professors provide more thorough feedback, the student would know how to improve on the upcoming assignments (Perciavalle). Lettered grading does not always show the true student’s ability nor do they accurately state how well a student is understanding the curriculum. Approximately all professors have their own grading standards and practices (McCarson). Some college professors look at an assignment as an easy grade, as long as the work is done completed the student receives an A. On the other hand, another professor may require more thought and comprehension from the student. This type of varying practices amongst college professors has the potential to be detrimental to a student’s GPA. The student may be so used to completing an assignment and getting an A throughout all of their college career; and the student gets a professor that may require more along with just the completing of the assignment. The pass or fail grading are not displayed on transcripts, therefore, allows for the student to be more focused on their learning and not so much the grade. The grading encourages scholars to be more inclined to register for more challenging classes that increase their knowledge without the stress of getting a D or F. The encouragement of taking harder classes grants the learner more knowledge they can gain; whereas, if they were on the lettered based grading, harder classes would be avoided for the sake of the perfect
