In the reading, we see an example of Luke’s emphasis on the compassion of Jesus toward sinners and to those who suffer, we see his patience, his friendliness, and his strong desire to seek out the lost.
The gospel tells us that the woman’s first reaction is to praise God!
Her praising of God is the recognition of the work of God, the mercy which God has shown to her. She knows what it is to feel forgotten, abandoned, mistreated, especially by those who claim to be God’s representatives, senators, interpreters of his law, and holders of the keys to heaven. But somehow, have forgotten his mercy.

The letter to the Ephesians tells us to be imitators of God. What does this mean? Well- a perfect example of that is seen in today’s Gospel reading. Reaching out to those who are in need, especially those who are probably too scared to approach us. It is Jesus who reaches out to the woman, rather than she asking Jesus to be healed. Jesus was able to see and feel her pain because he made himself available to encounters like these. The woman didn’t ask to be healed, but she knows of the compassion of Jesus and probably just came hoping…hoping that this compassionate man would be merciful to her.
Brothers, we must be the tree planted near running water That yields its fruit in due season and whose leaves never fade. We are called to live as children of the light… this light will attract those seeking God’s mercy. Remember we are the face of God’s mercy.
Let’s pray that not only will we be able to show mercy to all who seek it, but also bring it to those who need it, but like the woman might be afraid to
