Letter To Tan Heung Shan

Decent Essays
Dear Fùmǔ (Parents), I am very sorry it has taken me so many years to write back to you after coming to Tan Heung Shan (Hawaii). I miss you both very much, it has been a great burden not to see or hear from my dear family in Kwangtung for so long. In some ways Tan Heung Shan reminds me of our homeland along the Pearl River Delta, the climate and geography are not so different. Many other Chinese have come here from Kwangtung, so it is not as strange to live here as you might think. Having now finally completed my obligations under my contract and saved a small sum of money, I plan to start up a noodle shop in Honolulu.

After reading the Willie Lynch letter, I found his theory fascinating. When I say fascinating I don’t mean that in a good way. The fact that he came up was able to come up with a whole system for controlling his slaves proves to you that he was a very intelligent man. However, the only reason why his system was so successful was due to the fact that slaves weren’t allowed any access to education. I guarantee you if African American were allowed the right to read or any type of access to education like Caucasians at the time, then his system for controlling them would have been ineffective.…

I am writing this letter of reference on the behalf of Mabin Lee Womble. I have known Mabin for more than 20 twenty years, and he has always remained a member of the Asbury Park community where he has faithfully been a part of multiple community and faith-based events. Additionally, Mabin has had a long and productive career working and serving in the greater Asbury Park area. Mabin is a consistent and reliable person, and Mabin’s commitment to the children and residents of Asbury Park is decidedly compassionate and supportive. He really puts the concerns of others first and goes out his way to assist or help them, which is a remarkable characteristic to bear in today’s times.…

I founded it very difficult to finish reading this letter from Willie Lynch. The way in which he explains how slaves need to be treated. His humiliating program to control those individuals from escaping and the techniques to be used were envy, fear, and distrust. Up until now, I could not believe there was a letter with so many degrading ideas to punish and control human beings. In this letter he expressed that his purpose was to destroy people from the African community for hundreds of years.…

President Andrew Jackson spoke in a very careless tone. It was almost as if Andrew Jackson didn’t even feel the slightest bit of sympathy for the Cherokees. President Andrew Jackson clearly stated, “My Friends, Circumstances render it impossible that you can flourish in the midst of a civilized community.” This statement shows us that President Andrew Jackson didn’t care about what the Cherokees had to go through. He only cared about the benefits that would be given to the Americans once all of the Cherokees left.…

I am writing you a letter regarding the training I have received since being employed at the Younes Conference Center. I have been employed at the conference center since my junior year of college and the training I have received has been great in some instances and lacking in others. When I first began working at the conference center I was scheduled to work three training shifts. When I showed up on the first day I was given a booklet that I had to sign that went through basic policies and procedures that bartenders do. This book benefited me in understanding the way the conference center ran and a few of the expectations they had for me.…
