Letter To Reggie Shaw Analysis

Decent Essays
For the second essay, I decided to write a letter to Reggie Shaw. Within the letter I wanted to capture Reggie’s emotions, and let him know that his story has become an inspiration for us all. Throughout the read, I also wanted Reggie to forgive himself, and continue sharing his story with the new generation of drivers out there. Additionally, I tried to use sources that I believe would support my claim. Sources that discussed the different types of trauma the brain experiences when under emotional pressure, and sources that talked about the negative effects of cell phones. I tried to make the read feel conversational, with a few quotes throughout the letter to key in on the point I wanted to make. Moreover, I even used one of Reggie’s interviews

After reading the Willie Lynch letter, I found his theory fascinating. When I say fascinating I don’t mean that in a good way. The fact that he came up was able to come up with a whole system for controlling his slaves proves to you that he was a very intelligent man. However, the only reason why his system was so successful was due to the fact that slaves weren’t allowed any access to education. I guarantee you if African American were allowed the right to read or any type of access to education like Caucasians at the time, then his system for controlling them would have been ineffective.…

Overall the essays that we have read this semester have been good. There are a few essays in particular that I think benefited me the most was “The Time to Act I Now” written by Al Gore, “Just Walk on By” written by Brent Staples, and the “Letter from Birmingham Jail” written by Martin Luther King. These essays have benefited me in a numerous amount of ways in which I am going to explain how their writing styles helped me become a better writer. Staples helped me a lot in which he taught me to explain my reasoning fully so that the audience know exactly what I am talking about. Another thing that Staples taught me was to explain the setting of the story in full detail so the readers can visualize what’s actually happening in the story this…

This essay talked about three things I included in my letter. These three things are my word choice, my sentences, and my use of perspective. In Zero's letter I used broken up sent it to show how he is still learning grammar because he is the only one out of everyone who can't read, or write. In Mr. Pendenski's letter I used a lot of Western slang to show his Texan personality.…

Additionally, Frethorne’s letter presents a negative image about indentured servants, and he describe his condition as one of the servants. When he states fowls exist; yet, they are not allowed to get them. However, they are expected to work hard until late in the evening for water, bread, and beef. As Frethorne describes, when it rains, they are forced lie inside the boat and eat nothing but a piece of bread. Therefore, it is possible that numerous indentured servants during this period suffered similar circumstances since indentured helpers were typically uneducated and poor.…

n this undated letter, written at the request of Jeremy Belknap, corresponding secretary of the Massachusetts Historical Society, Paul Revere summarizes his activities on 18-19 April 1775: he recounts how Dr. Joseph Warren urged him to ride to Lexington (to warn John Hancock and Samuel Adams of British troop movements); how he had previously arranged with some fellow Patriots to signal the direction of those movements by placing signal lanterns in the steeple of Old North Church; and how he left Boston from the "North part of the Town," was rowed across the Charles River by two friends, and there borrowed a horse and began his ride. The manuscript letter includes some interlineations, apparently in the hand of Jeremy Belknap. In printing the account in Collections of the Massachusetts Historical Society, 1st series, vol. 5 (1798), Belknap assigned to it the date of 1 January 1798. At the end of the document, Revere signed his name but then, apparently choosing to remain anonymous, wrote…

Writing was not a subject that held my interest in high school. Throughout the last twelve years I have found myself having to write letters, proposals, and business correspondence for my employers. I would complete the assignment and move on to the next task. Deciding to further my education I enrolled in Daytona State College and my first class was your ENC 1101. I have seen a change in my pre-class writing style; I have honed my skills, and the different techniques I have learned while taking this course have only improved my writing style.…

A Revision of “From Sports Star to FFA Fanatic” Out of the essays that we have written in class this semester, this Cause and Effect paper proved to be the most challenging to write. I struggled to even pick a topic, let alone formulate a plan for executing the piece. I remember exactly when the idea came to me; I was dozing off on the bus, travelling to a soccer game, when suddenly, the idea hit me square in the face. I wanted to write about something that was near and dear to me, and this story was certainly that.…

Writing has always been my weakest subject, even during grade school. I was the kid that never liked to read, I didn’t have any appreciation for the art of writing. Whenever I had a writing assignment, I would do the minimum requirements for it so that I would be able to barely pass the class. However, as I transitioned into college, my appreciation for literature and writing expanded. In my freshmen year of college, I took the class Writing 37.…
