Letter To Chuck Kraemer Scholarship Committee

Dear Chuck Kraemer Scholarship Committee,

Thank you again for your support in my academic journey. My first year at the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities was incredible. I learned a great deal, academically, socially, and personally. I was also given the opportunity to travel with one of my classes to France for a little over a week, which was absolutely wonderful. In my first semester, I discovered Architecture was not the path for me anymore, but the university provided me with many resources to find my path, which is now Retail Merchandising. I am extremely excited to start my new course path and look forward to the internship opportunities that the Twin Cities offers me. Your support of the youth at Crosby Ironton High School

Today, June 18th, 2017, marks the last day of my first week of college at Paul Quinn College and I am proud to say, “I survived”. Committing to Paul Quinn was a really big decision for me because this school is a 17 hour drive away from my home in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota. I was afraid that I might get homesick or that I would not have the support of my family because I would be so far away from home. Soon, after visiting the Dallas campus, I realized that Paul Quinn was the school for me. This is the school where I will grow as an individual and I have come to that realization in my first week of college through the many conversations with upperclassmen, faculty, alumni and summer bridge students.…

Whether it was taking time out of my day to attend the first general body meeting of debate team or filling out the application for National Society of Collegiate Scholars, I began my success by putting my foot out into the unknown without fully expecting what I was going to get out of it. Having the adventurous mind to try out new things has opened my mind greatly to leadership opportunities, service, scholarship, and social justice. Topics and initiatives that I would have never thought to be conversing about or partaking in are now major parts of my everyday life. Through NSCS and every other organization or club I’m a part of, I have become a more active, accommodating, and out spoken person. To a first generation college student, obtaining success in college can often seem like a daunting task and many might shrivel in fear of the expectations.…

I think I know why the women in Romantic Comedies end up so happy Read more… So far, words of encouragement lie on every social media platform with hopes that 2017 serves as a fresh start for us all (especially us women) and that we all get fit, find love and kick ass without busting our asses. But of course, I believe that parts of the past that need to be acknowledged before we pledge our allegiance to a successful 2017. It wasn't till one November morning (2015) while celebrating my mother's birthday that what seemed like my most genius plan of finishing community college and moving to New York in the next year looked more disarranged than the eggs on my plate. Throughout my entire academic journey, I have been through an abundance of ups and downs. Most of my academic success and triumphs began in high school. During elementary and middle school, my academic journey was very mediocre. During high school, I achieved many things such as placing first in the districts history fair, graduating with my A.A. degree in sociology, and being captain of my high school soccer team. I also faced some very devastating challenges involving myself and my family.…
