I would like to recognize Jed Smith as an exceptional individual as well as collegiate strength and conditioning coach. His knowledge, personality, and altruistic character led the University of Northern Iowa to new heights. I was a student-athlete at the University of Northern Iowa majoring in Exercise Science when Jed became the head strength and conditioning coach. Jed started a tradition and foundation at UNI on an academic level as well as athletic. Academically, he worked closely with the exercise science department to put more of an emphasis on strength and conditioning as a profession, which further led to both of my degrees in Exercise Science (i.e., M.A. and B.A.).…

Zachary Taylor was the 12th President of the United States, serving from March 1849 until his death in July 1850. Before his presidency, Taylor was a career officer in the United States Army, rising to the rank of major general. Taylor's status as a national hero as a result of his victories in the Mexican-American War won him election to the White House despite his vague political beliefs. His top priority as president was preserving the Union, but he died seventeen months into his term, before making any progress on the status of slavery, which had been inflaming tensions in Congress.…

Dear J. Madison, I have the utmost respect for you, but something has been puzzling me lately, I simply cannot comprehend why you oppose the Connecticut Compromise so deeply. I despise that we are in an argument about the ways our government should work. The Constitution would not have been as grand as it is if not for you, however your Virginia Plan does not represent smaller states, such as my home in Connecticut, New Jersey, and many other states are in agreement. My idea is a compromise, which involves each state, it includes bicameral legislature, with one part proportional representation and the other half involving each state having one representative. I know you are a busy man, but I hope that you will consider voting for the good of…

    1. What is working well in Taylor’s draft? • Taylor provides ample examples leading up to her thesis such as the Rosa Parks refusal to give up her seat, Martin Luther King Jr.’s speeches, Elizabeth Ecckford and Little Rock. All of these to start leading her reader to follow her path to her argument, because then she addresses question that aren’t answered in today’s textbooks such as what happened to the Little Rock Nine, or that Rosa Parks was a part of the NAACP, or that A. Philip Randolph actually planned the million-man march. She brings up these tidbits of information to support her thesis which is a logical path because now her readers understand how she’s gotten there.…

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Scottie and Wilhelmina Brown, This correspondence is being provided as a follow-up to the telephone conversation that I had with Mr. Scottie Brown on Wednesday, February 22nd in reference to your letter as parents requesting a written summary regarding the situation involving your son, Isaiah Brown and another student in his class at dismissal on Valentine's Day. Per my discussion with Mr. Brown, I shared the following: • The situation observed by a Meramec parent, handled by a Meramec teacher, Mrs. Karen Finder, was previously investigated and addressed. • While the parent observed only your son's interaction with one other student, there was another student also involved in what transpired. • This other student has teased and taunted the student you identified as bullying your son during class, continuing to tease and taunt as they were leaving the building.…

I wanted to ensure that these groups of freshmen feel safe, prepared, and excited for all of the valuable opportunities available at CHS. In a way, I feel that I am helping them begin a fresh, new journey by guiding them in the right direction for success. From my experiences as a CAV Crew leader, I have developed a newly ignited passion for service and leadership. Even to this day, I can walk through the hallways and recognize some freshmen in my past groups and check in with them as a fellow Cavalier and friend. It is a rewarding feeling to know that I have made some difference–big or small–in the lives of those students.…

My involvement as President of this years National Honor Society at Burlington High School has been one of great dedication and hard work. I have to say, it has not been an easy task, but it has taught me an aray of different lessons dealing with management of particular tasks and using time more efficiently. My life is hectic enough as it is living on a farm, playing high school sports, and challenging myself academically as much as possible, and NHS has only added to that work-load, but in no way would I ever change my decision to be a leader of NHS. This year has been extremely rewarding to me as I have launched two projects, one of which has been completed as my project team and I helped get seniors registered to vote in Wisconsin for the upcoming election in November.…
