King heavily uses pathos as a form of persuasion in his “I Have a Dream” he uses more pathos because he wants to appeal to his audience of supporters. In the very beginning he uses a fact that will inspire people to listen to him, to hear what he has to say, “Five score years ago, a great American, in whose symbolic shadow we stand in today, signed the Emancipation Proclamation,” (P.261). Even using this fact he is pulling people in, drawing to their emotions. Throughout this entire speech he does this. Whenever he uses facts it is still something that brings people into the fight with emotion. He uses metaphors as well, “In a sense we have come to our nation's capital to cash a check” (P.261). He repeats this a few times a carries it throughout the speech. This is a form of evidence that he uses to make people see what he is saying. He uses language that all people, to an extent, would understand. He did this to make everyone feel like they are the fight, like they matter, which they do.
