PART FOUR: Written analysis and description

381_CP_SONG 1: Can’t Stop
Can’t Stop expresses the importance of having someone in your life that looks out for you and you hold in high respect. In the chorus, “Can’t stop thinking bout, won’t stop thinking bout, how you love me” conveys how you often have that someone on your mind because they are willing to care for you. These lyrics have a catchy melody attached to them as there are no more than two syllables for each word. This gives a rhythmic effect to the melody so listeners can easily remember and sing back the lyrics. The heavy synth bass keeps the R&B groove of the song going with semibreve notes in the verses and dotted quaver semiquaver rhythms in the choruses. There are four different

For example, in verse three, “I know just what I wanna do, is feel the nature inside of me” and in the bridge “Water talks to me like it has always known me”. The song captures a beach setting with a track playing underneath the guitar and vocals of sounds you would hear at the beach like waves and seagulls. The simple instrumentation of only acoustic guitar gives the melodies and lyrics more prominence with the subtle ocean soundtrack adding ambience in the background. The rhythm of the lyrics in the bridge contrasts to the verse and chorus rhythms. The lyrics, “As we walk together want to feel moments forever” is fourteen syllables in total that are each sung flowing into the next on quavers except ‘ever’ on semiquavers. In contrast, in the chorus, “Let’s all run and be free” has 6 syllables and is sung as dotted quaver-semiquaver …show more content…
The driven synth bass and airy backing vocals open the song followed by the chorus where we hear the British-like sounding lead vocals. The British accent and delay on the lead vocals is unexpected coming from a Kiwi, however it adds another texture and element of difference. To distinguish between the verse and chorus, distortion is put on the vocals in the verses, again creating another texture. Keeping the listener engaged in this song is achieved by the use of hi-pass filters on the bass tracks to keep the song ‘moving’ forward, adding different synth sounds and rhythms and having two bars of either silence, bass, or synth to give the listener space to absorb what they have just heard. The lyrics in this song are written from a confused, teenage boy’s perspective and the bridge lyrics are from the writer’s perspective talking to the boy. For example, in verse two from the teenage boy’s perspective, “Smoking, these lies are haunting. Welcome to my reality. Gimme one more” and the writer’s view in the bridge “I’ll catch the tears down your face. You’ll see more than this place”. There are subtle references to a baseball game from the boy’s perspective that helps to describe his current pain, “Through the air you see me disappear…Run even further almost to

On the surface, one might not think that the great Italian opera La Traviata by Giuseppe Verdi and the acclaimed indie group Dinosaur Jr. have much in common. One concert, for instance, took place in an intimate performing arts center to an attentive and quietly reverent audience while the other in a loud, rough-and-tumble rock venue to a lively and informal audience. Indeed, there may appear to be no similarities between the effortlessly skilled classical stylings of the UNT College of Music and the deliberately ramshackle indie sound of Dinosaur Jr. However, with these two concerts, we see Christopher Small’s concept of “musicking” in full effect and, critically, two different forms of the same musical elitism.…

The song itself begins with a very catchy hook; an introduction simply comprised of four bars of “Mum mum mum mah,” lasting until 0:25. The exposition then starts with the first verse, which lasts from 0:25 to 0:40. Following Verse 1 is the B Section, which can be seen as the introduction of a new theme. Then, from 1:00 to 1:13 minutes into the song, the chorus kicks in. The chorus differentiates itself from a verse because a chorus repeats both the music and the lyrics.…
