The Let’s Dance Company (LDC) presented their 11th Repertoire Dance Concert on May 13th and May 14th of 2016. The performance took place at East Los Angeles College in the college’s recital hall. The artistic director of the Let’s Dance Company is Kimberly Denise Rabins and the co-director is Kristin Reutimann. The Rehearsal assistant of the Let’s dance company is Breanne Genite. All three of them choreographed different pieces of the concert. The dance concert featured many dance styles, such as jazz. One piece that I believe incorporated elements from Jazz was Body Language. The piece was choreographed by Breanne Genite and the music was by Queen. There was 15 dancers who performed this piece. There were 13 dancers in this piece that was choreographed by Kimberly Rabins. Music was by Christian Aguilera, Pink, Mya, and Lil Kim. The dance looked like it was a piece made for empowering women. The different lighting for this piece worked great with the choreography and added a dramatic effect to the piece. The costumes were pretty and effective with the lights changing throughout the piece. The use of the dancers’ rhythms was greatly used during the three kick lines. I recognized that the movement of the kick lines are like the kicks in class when legs have to be straight, high, and feet pointed. The music made me feel energetic because of the use of mixing artists that are amazing and have energetic moods. The dynamic of this piece is clear that it is a high level and required training to pull off. My interpretation of the dance was that women are strong and could pull off anything. It was clear that the dancers’ felt strong doing this piece; you could see it in their facial expressions. The dancers’ had technical strength because they never missed techniques that go with each move; such as pointing feet. I am going to apply this to my dancing by strengthening my technique, starting with pointing my feet. I saw from this piece how important it is for everyone to do every little and big technical part of a move. Overall, Lady Marmalade was a very entertaining and fun

All of the performers would be considered amateurs in the dance discipline, most having only a year of dance experience from their public high school. This dance was a sassy, slower performance; using the dancers long lines to appear as a sexier routine. To make the dance more appealing numerous lifts were added and the technique of fall and recover was a common technique. The dance as a whole was a good attempt of having inexperienced dancers performing rather simple…

The dancers demonstrated some positions that are not normally seen at the gym and it truly creative. For example, they demonstrated running by stumbling their feet as fast as they could. Additionally, the dance contained funny movements such as a dancer dragging another dancer across the stage. The most entertaining part of the performance was when two male dancers came out to the stage to lecture the female dancers on how their workout should have been done.…

This production was built on a strong foundation of classical ballet technique and repertoire but heavily infused with pop and rock style. The ballet technique was not hidden or shied away from. I was impressed by the successful integration of the classical style into the rock and roll type theme. The ballet vocabulary ranged from basic practices of turnout, épaulment, posture and pointe work…

“Classical Fantasy” choreographed by Jerry Opdenaker, restaged and danced by Ciera Fielding, was a beautifully done piece because of it’s nod to classical ballet. The reference to classical ballet was due to both the musical choice of a composed piece lacking lyrics, and purely instrumental, as well as her outfit that consisted of a tutu, her ballet shoes with the boxed toe to allow her to go fully on point, and lastly due to her perfection of the aplomb. In this piece Ms. Fielding used indirect space by taking command of the entire floor as she pirouetted from each space to transition into the next move. While her body was very upright, and she often spun on toe, her sense of weight was light weight. It was almost like she was floating gracefully across the stage, which created a fluid effect to her sudden sense of time.…

After the post –Civil War Reconstruction period ended in 1876 and for much of the nineteenth century the black community was in constant migration. White supremacy was precedent across the South, intimidation, violence and lynching of black southerners were not uncommon practices. Segregationist policies known as Jim Crow became the law of the land. Southern blacks were forced to make their living working the land as part of the sharecropping system, which inevitably offered very little in the way of economic opportunities. When World War 1 broke out in Europe in 1914, industrialized urban areas in the North, Midwest and West faced a shortage of industrial laborers and war production was pushed into high gear.…

In this quote, Wynton Marsalis was talking about Louis Armstrong. Jazz music has impacted the world and cultures, it shares in so many ways. Modern jazz has continued in this tradition, singing the songs of a more complicated urban existence.…

To start off, when you first start to watch the video, the cameraman focuses specifically on four young dancers. These four young women are wearing white tutus, point-shoes, and white feathered headpieces. As the video plays on the dancers move along with the slow, then fast, back to slow, and then right back to fast, beats of the music. The dancers are very focused on each and every step to make sure they are in sync with one another. The movements the dancers make are smooth, repetitive for a limited time, then on to the next movement, and are connected.…

“Dancing Lessons” Review At first, when I found this play I didn't think it was going to be actual play because of the title, but once I got there I understood why it was called “Dancing Lessons.” I enjoyed this play more than I thought I was going to. The story it had, the comedy, simplicity, and many more aspects of the play I enjoyed. It was at Riverside Theatre in Iowa City, I personally really like that theatre because of how small it is, and how close you feel to the actors.…

    What Is Jazz?

Jazz is comprised of many different elements of dance, like African, concert, ballroom and street dance. Jazz became a melting pot and people have strayed from jazz in exchange for new types of dance. In my opinion, that is why jazz does not get the respect it deserves sometimes in comparison to other dances. I believe, however, that people should respect the roots where most modern day dances came from, jazz. Although jazz is more of a tradition dance, people can still learn a bunch of fundamental components from jazz.…

My mood was jubilant that day because I was glad I came to that performance instead of staying home. I would have felt home sick with all that final review so it was pleasant and peaceful having entertainment for such a low cost but great performance. The movements I identified were a lot of the terms I went over in dance class from degage to grand battement, the list goes all over. The name of the performance should be called “The Art of Adventure” and it should be divided into subgenres which focuses on the main theme adventure. Adventure can be dim or bright but they always seem to have a long lasting well produced ending.…
