Pearson is remembered by all the great things he has done for Canada, resolving the Suez Canal Crisis being one. Prime Minster Pearson wanted peace and he believed so did Canada, Pearson had stated “…the most important international decision of all – which may one day have to be made – whether to maintain the universality of our international organization by the retention of the requirements of a unanimity…or whether to make the United Nations into a really effective organization even if it means going ahead only with those who are willing to make national sacrifices to achieve the great international objective of peace and prosperity.” (Pearson, Lester Bowles, 619) He believed Canada was a country to make sacrifices to accomplish this objective. The Suez Canal crisis had been continuing to cause problems since 1956, representatives from several countries part of the United Nations had been struggling to solve the never ending crisis to prevent it from going out of hand (Pugliese, David, 14-15). However, the problem soon would come to an end. Lester B. Pearson, the secretary of state for External Affairs for Canada at the time being, introduced a plan to create an United Nations military force to help settle the conflict whilst a political solution was being developed (Pugliese, David, 14-15). The automotive treaty between Canada and Untied States that was agreed on and signed, was another great impact Pearson had on the country. Another one of his accomplishments that supported Canada for its greater good was what won him the Noble peace prize.
